Writing music for a movie that beautifully interweaves an adult’s vulnerable tragedy and a young girl’s curiosity is a task of much care and attention. While creating the music for this film I wanted to portray both the pain and the sorrows of a grown man, as well as the care and love between two very different human beings.
Choosing a nostalgic sounding piano as the main instrument to tell both Erik’s and Maya’s story makes it possible to switch between their different themes while still maintaining a close human connection between the characters on a musical level. The piano conveys both the adulthood and the childhood in one sound.
